Creating the perfect banner ad
------

All banner ads placed on the Money4ideas Tips & Resources pages will be the standard size of 120 X 240 pixels. They may be as simple as a flat graphic containing a direct link to your website - or they may be composed of smaller images and "real" text". Your banner may be animated, or you might want a colorful border. There are lots of options. This page will help you make sense of the basic requirements.

I already have an ad I want to run. What do I need to know?

Ideally, your ad will be a 120 X 240 pixel .gif or .jpg image. Flash ads will not be accepted. If your banner is to be comprised of images and text, all the key components need to be appropriately sized to fit the space.

We can in most cases resize, crop, and/or convert most files you might have. That includes PDF, png, Photoshop, Quark , Word documents... and others.

The most important things to watch out for are:

Keep your advertisement as close to the right proportions as possible.

A square ad that's been squeezed to fit into the tall retangular space will be hard to read.

Don't try to cram in too much

A full page print ad, for example, will not be legible when shrunk down to fit.

Use some common sense and the example appearing on the left as your guide. By following these rules you'll be much happier with the results.

NOTE: Animated .gif images are fine. We do, however, request that blinking, scrolling, and image rotation be kept to a minimum. We reserve the right to tone down overly garish and excessively large files.

I don't have anything prepared. How do I start?

Chances are you've already got a website - and on that site there are probably all sorts of bits and pieces that could be used to create an ad for you. Your company logo, for instance, is a pretty obvious choice. Pictures pertaining to what you do and/or the customers you do it for are also great material. If all else fails, an advertisement containing nothing but text can still be laid out in an attractive and compelling manner.

Where do I go to send you my files?

The URL of our upload page is: www.invent4money.com/upload.html or simply

A wide range of file types and sizes can be sent via this feature. Please do not send files via e-mail attachments unless you've asked to do so and have cleared it with us in advance.

You wrote me a message saying you won't run my ad at all. Why is that?

First and foremost, all advertisements placed on our site must be relavent to the target audience. We consider these ads a service that could potentially benefit our customers as well as our advertisers. If you are a prototyping company, a parts supply company, a manufacturer specializing in small runs, a patent attorney, or sell books and magazines relating to the invention process - it's obvious that you have something to offer our customers. If you are selling drugs, porn or other completely unrelated products and services you need not apply. Invention marketing and evaluation companies will also not be accepted. In short, if we do not feel your product or service is of direct and obvious benefit to our readers - or if you are a direct or indirect competitor of the service we ourselves offer as licensing agents - we reserve the right to refuse your ad. It's that simple.
